If I understand his answer - when we eventually got around to it - he said he was aware that the letter would be sent to those not paying by direct debit. Therefore, he did know. He was aware that the letter was going to go out to 960,000 citizens demanding that they pay the tax before the end of the year, because that is what it says in the letter. This is a very controversial issue. The Taoiseach may think it is done and dusted, but this is a very controversial tax. It is a very blunt, unjust and unfair revenue-raising exercise.
