They are the main points I wanted to make. It is very wrong to spend so much time and money at university only to graduate and find one cannot get a job. The daughter of a friend of mine has gone to New Zealand for work. She is a highly qualified secondary school teacher who was getting two days or three days work here and there. What made her angry was that there were retired teachers on pensions working in some of the schools in which she got part-time work.

The Minister might look at establishing a database or, as he said, get the Teaching Council to establish one. As has been called for in the House over the years, will the Minister once and for all deal with retired teachers on pensions who are brought back into the system at the expense of young graduates?
