Appointments to State Boards

4:00 pm

The most important and sensitive appointments which the Taoiseach and Government will have to make in this particular sphere are appointments to the boards of banks. As I understand it, in terms of the procedure which the Taoiseach described, public appointments to the boards of banks were advertised eight months ago, in respect of which the banks received approximately 500 applications. A large majority of those who applied have already been told they will not be getting the job, which is perfectly reasonable if proper procedure is being followed. Why, given the length of time this procedure has been going on, have no appointments been made at this stage?
