We have to rectify the problem that a substantial number of septic tanks are not operating as they should be. The Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government will introduce a nominal once-off registration charge. Inspections will take place in 2013, based on a risk area assessment of poor topography and areas where septic tanks may not work. This will allow us to understand the scale of the problem.
