I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, to discuss the cuts in home help hours on a national basis which are having a detrimental effect on our elderly population. Although mindful of the horrendous job facing the Minister for Health, who should not be blamed in trying to deal with the budgetary cutbacks that have to be implemented by the Health Service Executive, cutting home help hours and obliging people to be cared for in hospital will potentially cost the State more than caring for these persons at home.
