The Minister for Finance yesterday expressed the Government's position, on which we have been absolutely consistent, which is that the burden on the Irish taxpayer for losses incurred by the banks must be minimised. The Minister has reiterated the Government position on burden-sharing for senior bondholders in Anglo Irish Bank and Irish Nationwide, and he has made it clear that this will be discussed with the ECB and particularly with the Commission. The question of the legislation required to implement it will be dealt with following those discussions.
