Residential Mortgage Debt: Motion (Resumed)

The so-called moratorium will not work because the banks are ruthless. They are still lying to us about payments they made to some of their staff. Banks are already forcing people to give up their homes voluntarily. When I was in Waterford last week, I met a girl who did shift work in a big company in Waterford, Bosch and Lomb. She finished her shift at 8 p.m., at which time I met her with her father. She had a letter from her bank - one's bitter enemy would not send it to one - because she was in arrears by €1,200. The bank more or less told her she could lose her home and be mentioned in debt magazines. This is what the banks are doing this week and will continue to do. Does the Government think it can stop them by asking them for a moratorium for two years?
