Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (No. 2) Bill 2010: Committee and Remaining Stages
11:00 am
Paul Gogarty (Dublin Mid West, Green Party)
There is a valid argument to be made on whether reducing the minimum wage is a good idea. Notwithstanding the motivations of various parties and those who fund them, any reduction in the minimum wage must be considered carefully. I discussed this matter in some detail yesterday evening. Before elaborating, I will discuss the substance of the amendment. Deputy Burton asked whether the Green Party should support this amendment. I support it because there seems to be nothing written in stone to protect workers who need the protection in question. In that context, I ask the Minister to take on board the amendment and accept it.
