Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32
10:40 am
Seymour Crawford (Cavan-Monaghan, Fine Gael)
I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise an urgent matter of national importance, namely, the serious situation regarding the delays in farm payments where, in spite of every effort by farm families to have their documentation rectified and updated, major backlogs are being admitted and subsequently a sizeable number of farmers do not know when they will get paid. Pig farmers are once again the victims of increased feed prices at €36 per tonne, and decreased product prices of between 8 cent and 10 cent per kg, and they have problems with credit to run their business. Although we had good weather conditions, it does not follow that a rising tide lifts all boats and it is extremely urgent that the current difficulties are dealt with.
