Will the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government appear before the House this week to explain his announcement of a review of a number of local authorities? I listened to today's lunchtime news when Cork City Council's manager, Mr. Joe Gavin, seemed quite bewildered as to why this investigation has been requested. The Department's website seems to be sending two signals. First, this is a general investigation of practices. Second, there is a suggestion of complaints of a particular nature. Will the Minister appear before the Dáil and let us know what notification was given to individual local authorities on this matter? Why were these ones targeted specifically?
