Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2010: Second Stage
1:00 pm
Róisín Shortall (Dublin North West, Labour)
The Labour Party will also be proposing amendments on the compulsory registration of fathers on birth certificates, which is in the clear interest of the child and would be of considerable assistance in combatting social welfare fraud. This measure has been extensively discussed in the past year but it is not provided for in the Bill. I hope the Minister will support our amendments. My colleague, Deputy Kathleen Lynch, has been very vocal on the issue of parental equality.
