Fines Bill 2009: From the Seanad
11:00 am
Dermot Ahern (Louth, Fianna Fail)
A court, when directing that a fine be paid by instalments, will specify the time during which they are required to be paid. This can be 12 months or a shorter period from the time that they would otherwise have fallen due. This is called the "due date for payment." The purpose of the amendment is to ensure that, in accordance with normal practice, the period during which the fine must be paid by instalments commences the day after it would otherwise have had to be paid instead of the day itself. This is a minor drafting amendment.
