Go raibh maith agat a Cheann Comhairle. Ba mhaith liom cead a lorg rún a rith chun an Dáil a chur ar athló chun déileaíl leis an gnó rí-thábhachtach seo. I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the failure of the Government to address the chronic overcrowding in the prison system which was condemned last night by the president of the Prison Officers' Association and the urgent need to lift the recruitment ban on the Probation Service which has directly resulted in the loss of 21 probation officers and community service supervisors and is reducing the capacity of the service to monitor offenders post-release and to supervise community service orders, which consequently compounds the overcrowding problem in our prisons.
