I welcome the opportunity to speak on this issue. There has been much debate on the banking crisis that this country faced over the past number of years, and this is a continuation of that. At the outset, it is important that we reflect on how we arrived at this position. Much commentary, both inside and outside of this House, seems to forget the position in which Ireland found itself, particularly in September 2008. Much commentary is now suggesting that we should have acted differently.
