Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32
10:30 am
Jimmy Deenihan (Kerry North, Fine Gael)
This is an urgent matter. I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the Government's decision to withdraw Irish troops from Chad at a time when talks at the United Nations to renew the MINURCAT mandate are at a critical juncture and being mindful of the warnings from senior officers in the United Nations that the Government's decision has had the effect of damaging those talks and also in light of additional warnings from the UN Humanitarian Chief and Human Rights Watch who have expressed the fear that the withdrawal of troops from eastern Chad will lead to increased violence and human rights abuses.
