This is a very straightforward question relating to children's welfare. The Tánaiste may have seen recent reports where the Maclaren company, which produces children's goods, has had to recall a million child buggies in the United States because of the danger and damage to children's fingers. Some children had the tips of their fingers cut off by the buggies in the United States. When the query was put to the Maclaren company about similar products in Ireland, it first denied that there were any such products in Ireland. The statement was then corrected to indicate that there were such products in Ireland but because of the nature of the Irish safety legislation, they did not warrant a recall of the buggies.
