The have not been tried here and when they were tried they were successful. When the court was moved out of Limerick in the Keane case there was a successful prosecution. It is the case that we are a small country and it is difficult to find a solution but making juries anonymous, using video links or sequestering them could work. It has not been proven that they do not work. Why opt for the worst case scenario when other options are available but have not been tried or tested? Such measures, along with the surveillance Bill and the changes introduced could have been successful. If there were a possibility of jury intimidation then one would use the surveillance Bill and where one could provide proof and get convictions, then the Minister could revert to us and demonstrate the examples, the facts and the figures concerning jury intimidation.
