Social Welfare Bill 2009: Instruction to Committee
6:00 pm
Mary Hanafin (Dún Laoghaire, Fianna Fail)
Again, these measures have not been introduced for any one company. It is not about any particular emergency situation that is about to arise. There are all kinds of media speculation and comments, but that is not the reason. Schemes all over the country are winding up because those companies are insolvent and we want to ensure the workers in those companies can benefit from this. That is the only motivation in bringing this forward. I appreciate that it is difficult and it is a very short time in which to do it.
