A report was brought before the Joint Committee on the Environment, Heritage and Local Government this week which shows that in excess of 3,000 affordable homes are currently vacant and unsold. Committee members were told that this figure is expected to increase to more than 4,000 by the end of the year. There are many reasons for this, one of which is the downturn in the housing market.
