Last night the Government voted down, by a margin of three votes, a Labour Party motion setting out eight specific proposals for dealing with the problems of people who are currently unemployed, with particular emphasis on the need for education and training services to be enhanced. When the Government met the social partners in January, it promised that a jobs and skills summit would be convened in March.
