It took us seven years until the late 1980s before we reached a consensus here and then we were much more able to deliver the solution that allowed the Irish economy to develop. We need the same consensus today. It worked back in the late 1980s and in the 1950s when we were faced with a similar crisis. Consensus reached then about the opening up of our economy to international trade helped us to deliver the solution. Let us try to seek agreement on the solution we will provide and not just bicker about what happened during the past ten years.
