Student Support Bill 2008: Second Stage (Resumed)
12:00 pm
Mary O'Rourke (Longford-Westmeath, Fianna Fail)
It is an abuse of human rights. These people have been given legal status of a type until they get their citizenship, yet they cannot go any further. If a big benefactor comes down from heaven — although we do not see many of them — and pays that young woman's fees, she would go on to get a very good job in this country and contribute to the economic well-being of the country of which she wants to become a citizen. It is amazing that the essential beam of light and truth which permeates cases such as this cannot be seen.
