Cancer Reports: Statements
12:00 pm
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin (Cavan-Monaghan, Sinn Fein)
It will be of no comfort to the Minister but Fianna Fáil-led Governments for the past 11 years have presided over what is a catalogue of failures and delays in cancer care. What is urgently needed is comprehensive public cancer care, provided in the public health care system and available to all citizens on the basis of need alone, regardless of their ability to pay or where they are geographically located. I commend that approach to the Minister or, more hopefully, to her successor and at the earliest opportunity. I would wish the Minister, as I did the Taoiseach yesterday, peace and contentment for the years ahead of her.
