Passports Bill 2007: Report Stage

This is the third intervention and I will be brief. The point is that there is nothing to prevent a Minister from making changes, if so desired. Neither the EU nor an international aviation authority will demand a government to change its passport system overnight given the huge amount of work that would involve. It takes many years to recall and re-issue passports with all this material. There is nothing to prevent the Minister tabling a brief amendment to change the required biometric data. A simple one-line amendment would suffice and it could be rushed through if there was a worldwide emergency. It might take a week or two but it could be done.
