I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to debate the following urgent matter: the need for the Minister of State with responsibility for children, Deputy Brendan Smith, to come into the Dáil to make a detailed statement and to answer questions on his intentions with regard to the community child care subvention scheme, the new system of funding for community and voluntary child care facilities which is causing grave concern in the sector with fears that it will result in closure of crèches, loss of jobs, increased fees for many parents and a two-tier system, and the need for clarity in the wake of today's reports that the Minister of State intends to alter the scheme and introduce a new income threshold.
