Question 107: To ask the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the steps he is taking to assist service providers in combating and alleviating personal debt; the progress made by his Department in regard to the preparation of legislation to make it illegal to charge exorbitant interest rates to low income families, as promised in a television interview in October 2006; the details of the contact between officials in his Department and the Financial Regulator and the Department of Finance on measures to combat extortionate moneylending; the outcome of these discussions; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
