Criminal Justice Bill 2007: Committee Stage (Resumed)
2:00 pm
Jim O'Keeffe (Cork South West, Fine Gael)
The case itself is ludicrous. Three of the six judges held that everything was okay and the trial judge decided the warrant was valid. When the matter was passed to the Supreme Court, the majority of its members — I respect them and acknowledge they are entitled to have a view — stated that a conscious and deliberate violation of the constitutional rights of the accused person had taken place. How in the name of goodness could that stand up? It does not make sense.
