Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.
10:30 am
Paudge Connolly (Cavan-Monaghan, Independent)
I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the need for the early implementation of a universal, new-born hearing screening programme, such as the one which has been in widespread use in the USA since 1964; the admission by HSE chief executive, Professor Drumm, that such a programme had not been implemented with the desired speed; the proven evidence that new-born hearing screening leads to earlier identification and treatment of children with hearing loss, and the effectiveness of screening in contributing to positive outcomes for early-identified, deaf babies.
