I will deal with the issue when we are discussing the Medical Practitioners Bill. The Minister has lapsed into spin again, but when she brings that legislation forward I would like to see detailed proposals on how she will deal with competence assurance. It is very easy to have a lay majority on a council, but competence assurance protects patients from bad doctors. That is the type of proposal I would like to see, not merely fluffing around the edges of the matter.
