National Oil Reserves Agency Bill 2006: Report Stage (Resumed)
6:00 pm
Tommy Broughan (Dublin North East, Labour)
In this matter, the Labour Party is prepared to stand on its record. Our Minister, Mr. Justin Keating, first established a fair and honourable regime in line with international comparisons. In the mid-1980s, our great party leader, Mr. Dick Spring, continued the regime. I accept the Minister's comment that people in the mid-1990s, including the subsequent Government's Chief Whip, took their eyes off the ball, but most of our party members are determined to have a fair and equitable oil and gas regime. First and foremost, we need knowledge and information, which is the purpose of this amendment.
