Question 4: To ask the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if his attention has been drawn to the concern expressed about the long drawn out delivery of broadband services here and the resultant economic consequences; if he, directly or through the regulator, will identify the cause or causes for the delay; if his attention has further been drawn to the critical nature of the report on broadband drawn up by the Joint Committee on Communications, Marine and Natural Resources; if he has proposals or intends to issue instructions to address the issues raised in the report; his proposals to increase the number of service providers in this area with a view to accelerated delivery of services; if he has studied or identified implications for the industry such as local loop unbundling in the event of a sale or takeover of Eircom; if his attention has further been drawn to the urgent need for investment in telecommunications infrastructure; his views on the State re-entering this market; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
