I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the need to establish a code of conduct for public representatives highlighting issues relating to workers from other EU countries, as well as the need to reiterate our welcome for our fellow European citizens, allied with the provision of adequate resources to enforce Irish labour laws, which will protect Irish jobs, so that the latent xenophobic and in some cases racist tendencies of a small minority of the native population are not fuelled into something more dangerous by an us and them scenario as portrayed either cynically or very sloppily recently by a number of political parties with regard to issues such as child care and work permits.
