I wish to seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the taking into care by the State of 1,959 children in 2003 due to evidence of physical, sexual and emotional abuse and the need for family support to prevent some children spending their childhood in State care and the failure of the Government to provide funding or resources for services that are known to work.
