3:00 pm
Willie Penrose (Westmeath, Labour)
Question 2: To ask the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the steps he will take to substantially increase the fuel allowance to recipients in view of the huge price increases in gas, oil and home heating which impacts on the elderly; if, in this context, he will ascertain from the Department of Finance the amount in additional duties raised by that Department due to increases in fuel prices that have brought unanticipated revenue into the central Exchequer; if some of this money will be redirected to the elderly by way of financing significant increases in the fuel allowance; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
