G8 Summit and Overseas Development Aid: Motion (Resumed).
7:00 pm
Tony Gregory (Dublin Central, Independent)
Ireland must honour the commitment of the 0.7% target sooner than 2015, the date given by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Deputy Dermot Ahern, this morning. International social justice is to a significant degree dependent on fair trade. A real test to our commitment to achieving justice for the less developed countries is to review, a reasonable term, all subsidies given to producers in the developed affluent world. We must re-examine the effect of those subsidies on the less developed world.
