Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

4:00 pm

Seán Ryan (Dublin North, Labour)

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent attention, the need for the Minister for Health and Children to outline the steps it is proposed to take arising from the shocking conditions in the Leas Cross nursing home disclosed in the "Prime Time" investigation programme on RTE last night; the steps it is intended to take to determine if similar conditions exist in other nursing homes and to indicate when it is intended to introduce legislation to provide for an independent system of inspection of nursing homes. In view of the importance of this issue I hope you will agree to it.
