Whoever fixed the date of the elections for 2 April did not appreciate that the Easter campaign comes just before it. Obviously, the Taoiseach will be dispensing his parliamentary members, after a heavy defeat in Meath and Kildare, to the outermost fringes of the country to the Gaeltacht areas. Why was the date of 2 April chosen?
