Select Committee on Transport
Estimates for Public Services 2025
Vote 31 - Transport (Supplementary)
2:00 am
Jerry Buttimer (Cork South-Central, Fine Gael)
First, it is about maintaining the service as it is. Second, the F spine is being unfurled and then there is the whole overarching umbrella of Connecting Ireland. As I said, the key cost drivers in terms of the higher PSO payments are energy, wages and network expansion. The allocation is a reflection of the Government’s commitment to reliable sustainable public transport and increasing connectivity. It is also about making sure that we roll out the two new BusConnects spines, the E spine and, in particular, the F spine. Those two new services under Connecting Ireland will be rolled out later this year or early next year. There is then the whole piece around Mullingar and Ennis which are due to commence, maybe, in quarter 1 of next year but there is no definitive date on that yet. That is part of where we are expanding the services.
