Select Committee on Disability Matters
Estimates for Public Services 2025
Vote 40 - Disability (Supplementary)
2:00 am
Gillian Toole (Meath East, Independent)
I have a suggestion that may have already been considered for graduates. It is that there could be a two year post-qualification retention and then they would be prioritised on return from abroad, registration dependent.
The feedback we get in our area on assessments across all disciplines is that approximately 30% of time is spent writing reports. I refer to linking in with the colleges of further education and training. For example Dunboyne near me has gateway courses linked to third level and there may be opportunities to run pilots. It could be budget-neutral because it deals with students who are in the system.
I think the point around duplication of recruitment with the NCSE has been covered. If not, I would welcome the Minister's feedback.
According to people we have met at the committee across the different modules, transportation is a barrier, particularly in rural areas, for accessing day services and employment. With regard to interactions with the Department of Transport and the NTA, what will be coming in the transport space?
