Select Committee on Disability Matters
Estimates for Public Services 2025
Vote 40 - Disability (Supplementary)
2:00 am
Maurice Quinlivan (Limerick City, Sinn Fein)
The Minister talked about therapies going into schools. I am not sure if she is aware that we did a number of modules on access to education in schools for people with disabilities. Corpus Christi Primary School from Moyross with its project, the sky is the limit, came in. I suggest, if the Minister has not seen that, that she looks at it. It will hopefully be a key part of the report we will do on that issue. The Minister spoke about assessments of need. Many members have spoken about that. We all agree that there are massive problems. The Minister used the word "broken" herself, as did Deputies. She is talking about a new version of that in the new year, which will hopefully disentangle people with autism, so they can go to a different service. I think the Minister clarified it but she might do so again. On the concerns people would have about that, would people still have the right to the assessment of need and would the timeframe be the same?
