Committee on Disability Matters

Access to Work for Persons with Disabilities: Discussion

2:00 am

Ms Marie Killeen:

On remote working, we work with people on a case-by-case basis. We have had tremendous success with employers who have put the reasonable accommodation in place so someone can work remotely. Sometimes, it is a question of getting in the door with someone. Since Covid, there has been the mandate to come back into the office for everyone who is on the existing team. Someone coming in with a disability is are already on the lower foot while also trying to get access to remote working. It kind of sets the person up for a negative before they have even started. Sometimes, it is all about dealing with the employer and getting them to understand it is a very reasonable accommodation that someone else may not need but this person absolutely does.
