National Broadband Plan and Network Resilience: National Broadband Ireland

Mr. T.J. Malone:

I will let Ms Fisher give an update on the take-up within the areas in a moment. On interaction with the various farming bodies, the answer is “Yes”. We have had numerous meetings with the IFA. We work very closely with it and Macra na Feirme, and we sponsor various activities organised by the latter.

There is definitely considerable support from and willingness on the part of those organisations. We go into the heart of every community, whether it is the GAA or the farming community. The support we have received from the IFA has been strong from the outset, including in the sense of getting the message out that we would be building in people’s areas. Now that we are out there and have the network built, it is a question of the take-up on the network and trying to get people across. From the figures Ms Fisher will mention, we can see there has been a higher rate of adoption among farmers whose farms we have passed with the network.
