Joint Oireachtas Committee on Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence and Children and Young People: Discussion
2:00 am
Ms Grace French:
AI can contribute significantly to children's creativity. It can help with hobbies and with creating images, which can be really fun. However, when it comes to coming up with original ideas, people tend to rely a lot on AI. Many of my peers are doing so. It could become a crutch if it is not monitored properly. Young people should be taught in school to develop their critical thinking skills and their creativity skills rather than being reliant on AI. It is becoming something they use instead of using their brain. I have used it a couple of times and, afterwards, I felt kind of crappy because I could not come up with something myself. I felt sort of lacking that I did not use my own creativity skills to come up with something.
