The impact on the community in Midleton ran into many millions of euro. Deputy O'Connor mention that the cost of damage to roads alone was in excess of €50 million. There is the cost of damage to property on top of that. The costs of those events are severe. All of that is taken into account in the economic justification for the schemes.
