Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community
Éileamh don Ghaelscolaíocht: Plé (Atógáil)
Ms Clare Kavanagh:
Tá 1,000 páiste i Ranelagh Gaels GAA at the moment ach níl aon áit nó pitch againn. We do not own any pitches. Má tá Gaelcholáiste inár gceantar, beidh áit freisin ann for Ranelagh Gaels. Tá a lán knock-on effects when you do not have a Gaelcholáiste, because you do not have a place for a lot of things to spring from. We are asking the Aire and saying we want a place and a building. We do not want what we have already. What we have already has given us what we have already. The teanga is not at the place where we want it. We have a lot ambition for the language and we want a Minister who has ambition for the language to come and meet us. She has no right to give us numbers that we have to come up with out of nowhere with no effort from the Rialtas or from the Department of Education to grow the numbers. I do not understand why she is telling grassroots campaigns to come up with 400 páistí líofa chun an Ghaelscoil nó an mheánscoil nua a oscailt, when she has done nothing to grow those numbers. We will give her numbers at the polls. We want a place and a building i mBaile Átha Cliath 2 go dtí 8 Cherrywood agus the northside. Is ceist faoi áit í seo. We need a place and the language needs new places, not the same ones.
