There are different levels of infection control in the healthcare setting. There are standard precautions and transmission-based precautions depending on what type of infection the person has and what type of isolation that person might need. Regarding standard precautions, every patient who comes into a hospital is at risk of picking up a hospital-acquired infection if he or she does not have the required amount of space or facilities. Our goal is to provide safer and better care for every patient. Ultimately, the infection control guidelines are there to protect the patient.
