Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement
Architects of the Good Friday Agreement (Resumed): Sir John Major

Looking at it a quarter of a century on the other side of the agreement, we question here what co-guarantor means and the responsibilities on both Governments to make sure those agreements are fully implemented. It is a concern. Also, many of the challenges people in the North face, even right now, would not be as challenging were those agreements to be implemented in full. We already talked about Stormont House, but even in terms of the bill of rights, if there were universal rights for all citizens in the North, that would alleviate much of the pressures that are there right now. It is important.
I have a question perhaps out of my own curiosity. When I lived in London, the North of Ireland was never a priority for people living in England. Would Sir John say it is more or less of a priority now than it was 25 years ago?
