Bear with me. We are always accused of overfishing. There are always three ranges. The lower range of the advice specifies 53,284 tonnes. The maximum sustainable yield, MSY, advice specifies 83,130 tonnes. However, on the upper range, if you could catch hake on their own, you could catch up to 117,526 tonnes without damaging recruitment and the fish coming back next year, according to the scientists. Despite this, we will be told we can catch 48,000 or 49,000 tonnes next year, if we are lucky. That does not take account of the socioeconomic part of the pillars of relative stability and the Common Fisheries Policy which we were told must be included in our deliberations.
