Before we begin, I would like to send the solidarity and sympathies of this committee to the family and friends of Vicky Phelan. Ms Phelan was a powerful advocate for women put in the most awful position and will be sorely missed. Her strength and dignity will not soon be forgotten nor her determination to see justice done for women let down by the failures of this State and its institutions. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
