Joint Oireachtas Committee on Gender Equality

Recommendations of the Report of the Citizens’ Assembly on Gender Equality: Discussion (Resumed)

Dr. Helen Russell:

Another interesting facet of that study in the UK was they did a survey around the same issues and found that when women were presented with information on the size of the pay gap in different companies, they were much less likely to say they would take a job in those companies. There could be a movement once this information becomes available and people who see it say they do not want to work for company X because it has a massive pay gap. That is another layer to it. People can then make choices. Companies are very conscious of such reputational issues so that is an important lever.
